We joined forces with partner organizations to make civil rights accessible, understandable, and inspiring for many young people in the first edition of our "School of Civil Rights."

Last week, we carried out a project that our team had been working on for months with great enthusiasm and dedication. Our “School of Civil Rights” targets young people with information about practical aspects of the rights they need to know and uphold as part of an active civil society.

On November 14, in our classroom, we welcomed young people from “Dobronosci” club at “For Our Children” Foundation, as well as from the Volunteer Club of the Sofia Mathematics School “Paisii Hilendarski.” In two interactive modules, the lawyers from our team discussed with the children the powers and interactions of various state institutions, as well as practical questions related to criminal liability.

On November 15, the International Youth Center – Pernik kindly hosted the full-day “School of Civil Rights,” which we organized together with our partners from SOS Children’s Villages – Bulgaria, for the children from the SOS Center for Community Support in Pernik, Community Support Center 1 in the Kalkas neighborhood of Pernik, the Family-Type Residential Center in Pernik, the SOS Family House “Dreamers” in Sofia, the Crisis Center for Children in Pernik, “Vasil Levski” Secondary School in Breznik, young people from the Independent and Supported Living Program of SOS Children’s Villages Bulgaria, young people from the “YouthCan” project of SOS Children’s Villages Bulgaria, and young people from the communities of Pernik and Breznik.

More than 30 children participated the school, discussed and took part in interactive games focusing on questions such as: “Why is it important to sign a contract when starting a job?”, “What information I shouldn’t share about myself online?”, “What functions has each institution in the state?”, “What is the criminal liability of minors?” and many others.

We are happy and motivated by the great interest of the young people who participated in both events, and we are grateful to our partner organizations for their support and cooperation, Through our joint efforts, we carried out a project that increases awareness of civil rights among young people.
